GCSE Results day

GCSE Results Day

After recently completing the exam period. It is now results day in the united kingdom, and parents are discovering that this comes with many ups and downs.

If your child received the GCSE grades they needed to pursue their chosen path, then it can be a day of elation.

You may be packing them off for college or enjoying a glass of wine in the knowledge that they will be out of the house for over half the day (every day). Either way, we wish them well.

If they did not receive the exam results you were expecting, it can be a very stressful period.

Luckily this is not the end. There are many ways we can help you, help them! Learn more about children and young people's mental health at the bottom of this article.

We now live in a digital age where there are more opportunities than ever. The old-fashioned consensus that conventional qualifications determine success, is a dying mentality. At all points in life, there are chances to re-train/up-skill and branch into new areas you are interested in.

Conventional Learning

Everyone has different abilities and preferred learning methods. Many children have natural head-starts in life due to the wiring of their brains. They understand the system and are happy to play ball. Others who have learning disabilities or simply respond to more practical learning styles are certainly at a disadvantage.

The next steps for your child are crucial for their development. If they are starting to understand what they gain enjoyment from and what they are particularly good at. It can be an interesting period and we must encourage them to explore all their options.

Next Steps

Children leaving secondary school are at a pivotal point where they will be deciding the next steps.

Apprenticeships

Many look to go straight into work. Fortunately, there are options to simultaneously join a workplace environment and gain relevant qualifications:

College is mainly theoretical learning. If you were to take a product design course, you learn how to build a table in principle and maybe build one. If you did an Apprenticeship you would have built 400 by the time you finish. Which experience do you think an employer would prefer?

B-Tech College

In the Uk, this is the middle ground between A-Level and an Apprenticeship. It is great for those who struggle to focus on tasks using narrow learning methods. Those students who could sell you anything or build you a rocket, but could not read off a board for an hour and absorb the information.

A-Level College

Students who believe university or higher Apprenticeships are in their future could benefit from A-Level College. This will help you gain qualifications to a very high valued standard across the world. Universities value this type of education and rank it with very high standards.

This all comes at a challenge. A-Level qualifications can be very difficult and will stretch the ability of all. If you feel you are up to the task we will never stop you, but you must understand it is very difficult at school. There is no 121 mentoring, you are expected to be given a task and often complete it independently. Self-motivation is a must!

Work Experience

If you simply are done with education, we completed understanding. Hard work and perseverance in a role can lead to great career progression. The best thing you can bring to an opportunity like this is a desire to learn. Employers want someone who can help them complete outstanding tasks. They will not have the time to spoon-feed you information, you will be often told things once and expected to complete tasks independently.

Children and Young Peoples' Mental Health

Many children really struggle with the pressures of this time period, luckily there are ways to help:

More than 400,000 children and young people are being treated for mental health problems, the highest figure since records began. Is this sign of a well-being crisis in under-18s?

How much has it risen?

Since last year alone, the number of mental health referrals has risen by 24%, but that doesn’t show the full extent of the crisis.

Graph Of Cases

There has been an increase of over 150,000 referrals since 2020, and experts worry there are far more that are avoiding treatment.
