Earlier this week The Prince’s Trust Tesco Youth Index revealed that one in four young people admitted to feeling “unable to cope with life” since the start of the pandemic. While 50% of 16-to-25-year-olds felt their mental health had worsened.

This shocking statistic all but confirms that the pandemic is having devastating impacts to the mental health of our country, as well as our physical health.

When looking at the events that have transpired over the last year, it’s no surprise why young people’s mental health may have shown the biggest decline. Schools and universities have been closed for large periods of the year, exams have been disrupted and the job market continues to shrink. There’s always been a huge amount of uncertainty when you’re growing up, but this situation has brought more uncertainty than ever before.

The Princes Trust has called on the government, businesses and individuals to work with them to support as many vulnerable people as possible.

As a company that has promoted for more people to gain an understanding on mental health issues and their impact, these findings were deeply worrying for us.

We want to raise awareness of our free online Children and Young Peoples Mental Health course and feel it could really make a difference to anyone who is supporting a young person during this tough time.

The course is designed to give an overview of various mental health problems and provides ways to support young people and children. It covers a multitude of topics from depression, anxiety, cyberbullying and more. We feel the course content is essential for any adult concerned about a child or young person in their care.
