This year marked the first Hospitality Apprenticeship Week in UK history.

The campaign was created to break down the negative stigma and connotations of the old-school hospitality industry and give school leavers a fresh perspective on the prospects of a career in hospitality can offer them - things are very different in kitchens in 2019 than they were 10 years ago!

There is an “ongoing skills shortage within this sector”   and this week encouraged everyone in the industry to strive to work together to change the “negative perceptions” surrounding careers in hospitality and promote the great options that having a hospitality career can bring.

Here at The AIM Group we understand the importance of apprenticeships within this sector, as they are a proven and effective method to not just simply fill vacancies, but to hire top talent, up skill and can help to retain staff as well.

According to research “53% of 16-20 year olds would not consider a career in hospitality”. So how can we work together to change perceptions?

Facing these odds, the industry needs to focus on the needs of the younger generation to get them to even consider hospitality - progression, flexible working, pay, freedom, good company culture are some of the most important things that inspire this new generation.

We can see that the need to fill vacancies, especially in this industry has increased, and so apprenticeships in this sector have increased in importance as they offer an alternative route to gaining a full career and qualifications, rather than pursuing the traditional routes into the trade.

We work alongside training providers that have placed apprentices in Greene King pubs, Toby Carvery, MItchell & Butlers and more - from front of house positions, kitchen & waitering and more technical roles like apprentice chef positions.
